Artist's Bio

Lucas is a young contemporary figurative portrait artist. Working primarily in acrylic on canvas for his larger pieces, he often uses vivid colours and distortion to exploit the expressive possibilities within the human face. His portraits can be confrontational and sometimes humourous. He is constantly experimenting in his sketches and studies, and in these smaller works uses a diverse range of media. His art is influenced heavily by a fascination of afro culture and music.

In 2021, during the lockdown, Lucas gained media attention when his drawing Homeless Man was selected by the Royal Academy (RA) for the Young Artists' Summer Show (YASS) online permanent collection. He was again recognised by the RA with his oil painting Recollection in 2025.

Lucas appeared on TV in 2023 after being selected from national submissions as one of three artists to compete in the portrait category of BBC's Britains Best Young Artist where he received a special commendation as a runner-up.

In 2024, Lucas held his first solo exhibition during Dorset Art Weeks and has exhibited in the Poundbury Arts Winter Show since 2024. His artwork has sold internationally and can be found in homes in Australia, Brazil, Canada and the USA.
